            HAPPY ENDINGS

JESSICA

Dear GPR,

Jessica has found a quiet, loving home where she can heal her ACL and torn meniscus.  We bonded the moment I bit into a carrot in the kitchen.  She became very alert and quickly hobbled over to beg for a bite.  We both share a love for carrots, broccoli, and other veggies.  When I need to get her to go outside, I just reach in the fridge for a piece of broccoli and she is meets me at the door.  Jessica gets along great with the other three dogs and enjoys the large yard to roam in.  I am very happy I pursued adopting her and still giggle every time she rolls on her back kicking all four paws in the air while barking.  It is quite a sight.  She was destined to be my dog.  Thanks for allowing me to foster and adopt her, I understand the circumstances were unusual.

BLAIRE

The Luyster's have a new addition to our family. Meet Blaire. She was adopted from Gainesville Pet Rescue on Saturday. She is approx. 10-12 weeks old. Blaire had many brothers and sisters. She is thought to be lab/shep mix. I feel in love with her on Petfinder. We talked with Amy from the organization and had many emails back and forth. She was up for adoption along with several of her brothers and sisters on Saturday. The adoptions are based on first come first choice at time of opening. We were so worried about getting all the way there to find out that we would not be first in line. Have no fear.... We arrived around 8:45 am and were first in line. The owner came out and chatted with us. We couldn't be happier with the organization. I hope you enjoy these pictures. I will be sending more in the near future. I just couldn't wait until the end of March to send these out.

WILLOW

We absolutely love Willow.  She was a bit aloof at first and wanted to spend most of her time out in our screened in pool area, but she now chooses to spend more and more time with us.  She never has had an accident in the house, though she does often get me up around 5 AM to go out.  Her foster family did a great job socializing her and it appears they also worked with her on “sit”, because she picked that up really fast.  She now also knows “down”, “give”, “leave it”, “stay” and “come  (though we still need to work on consistency).  She loves going for long walks and is getting much better at walking on a loose lead, she also loves running around in our large fenced yard, and stalking lizards.
We are having a lot of fun working with her.  Depending on how her interests and skills develop, we may try her on Frisbee catching, or agility.  I think she may also make a good therapy dog, since she is very mellow, and her trust in people is growing.  We’ll just see how it goes.
I’ll try to give you an update in several months.  Thanks again.

JASMINE

Hey! Just thought I would let you know that all is great here with Jasmine so far...
I have renamed her Ginger and she has taken to it quite well. She listens to and responds to commands quickly. She is a very quiet dog and definitely does not like negative reinforcement of any kind. I try not to raise my voice to her ever and she really responds quite well to positive reinforcement.
She can sit, lay, stay and come for me now. Not great or 100% but very good for a dog that has been here for only two weeks.
I took her to the
Santa Fe River last week and she LOVES the water. She swam and fully plunged her head underwater. I am looking forward to when it is warmer and I will be swimming with her.
I have noticed is that she is a bit odd about treats. She takes them and then drops them frequently. Also, I have noticed that sometimes she winces as she is given a treat, making me wonder if someone in her past would give her a treat then smack her.
Another thing I have noticed is that she appears to have a small heart shaped tattoo on her belly. Do you have any idea about where this came from?
As you know, I have two ferrets and that was my biggest concern. Now Ginger takes her meals when the ferrets take their treats and all three animals are within a foot or so of each other while eating and there have been zero problems.
Here is a picture of Ginger and Omi fighting over a toy of Omi's!
I misplaced the sheet you sent me and if you send me another one I will fill it out and mail it back. Alternatively, you can just email it to me or point me to it's location on the web.
Thanks a lot, Ginger is an awesome dog

AUTUMN

Dear GPR,

You guys were very in tune with Autumn. We adopted her and fell in love with her based on your description of her. Your description was so accurate and we are so glad it was! Autumn was the perfect fit in our family. She is a “dream” and such a great family dog.

My 2 yr old and 5 yr old adore her and the feeling is mutual. Autumn can usually be found between them or on top of them. She thinks she’s a lap dog. Autumn made herself right at home with us right from the start. Enclosed is a picture of her with our kids. She is such a joy!
